Scanlog initiates a strategic partnership with Energifabriken. The partnership means that Scanlog, for the first time, can offer fossil-free road transport regardless of where in the world the transport takes place, via Energifabriken’s inset solution.
- Together with our fossil-free sea and air transports as well as intermodal solutions, Scanlog can now offer a fully fossil-free door-to-door transport chain globally, says Matilda Thulin, Chief Sustainable Growth Officer at Scanlog.
Scanlog designs logistics solutions and transports goods globally across all modes of transport. Sea, air, and intermodal transports constitute a significant part of the operations. These solutions almost always require local pickup and final delivery by truck. Because the availability of biofuels and electrified vehicles varies greatly between countries, it has historically been difficult to offer fossil-free road transport throughout the entire supply chain.
Energifabriken produces and distributes 100% renewable biofuels such as HVO100 and RME100. Accelerating the transition and making it easy to choose renewable options today is a vision that permeates the entire company. Through a partnership with Scanlog, further steps are taken in that direction.
- We constantly strive to identify structural and practical barriers that slow development and create solutions that eliminates them. Our inset solution CarbonGo makes it possible to add more renewable fuels into the transport system in a transparent and verifiable way, for the road transports where one otherwise had to accept fossil fuels despite demand and willingness to pay for renewables, says Martin Olofsson, Deputy CEO at Energifabriken.
Through this new partnership, Scanlog and its customers gain access to a biofuel delivered on the Swedish market by Energifabriken. The customer purchases the amount of biofuel corresponding to the volume they want to reduce in CO2 emissions. HVO100 or RME100 is then filled into trucks in Sweden according to the mass balance principle, enabling Scanlog to offer a fossil-free road transport even if the actual transport occurs elsewhere in the world.
The mass balance principle is a cost-effective way to increase the consumption of biofuels and drive production upward over time. The methodology functions the same way as the established inset models used for Scanlog’s fossil-free air and sea products. In Sweden, pure biofuels are also excluded from the greenhouse gas reduction mandate. This means that the climate benefit is guaranteed to be 100% additional and fully allocated to the customer, as it is not used to meet any blending requirement.
- This partnership solves a problem we have had for a long time. The new offering meets the demand from Swedish companies requesting fossil-free transport throughout the entire logistics chain. It is also an important step in our roadmap toward our goal: completely fossil-free transport within Europe by 2030 and globally by 2050, says Matilda Thulin, Chief Sustainable Growth Officer at Scanlog.
- For us, this partnership means we can reduce emissions that would otherwise have remained fossil. It is through collaboration with sustainability-focused companies like Scanlog that we truly accelerate the transition, says Martin Olofsson, Deputy CEO at Energifabriken.
