Starting in 2025, Malm\u00f6 Chokladfabrik will purchase fossil-free fuel for all sea transport of ingredients \u2013 an effort that will reduce the company\u2019s climate impact from sea transport by 100%. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Malm\u00f6 Chokladfabrik, which produces organic chocolate in Malm\u00f6, has been a pioneer in sustainability since its inception. In 2010, they launched Sweden\u2019s first organic and Fairtrade-certified chocolate. The company\u2019s goal is to be fossil-free by 2030, and the collaboration with Scanlog is an important step toward that goal.  <\/p>\n<p><strong>Challenges with Sustainable Transport<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cTransporting chocolate implies significant challenges. Our deliveries to customers in the Nordic region can be fossil-free within a few years, provided our logistics partners continue to develop their shipping solutions. However, cocoa and other ingredients transported from South America and Africa have been more difficult. We are a small player in a market dominated by large freight vessels. Therefore, we are incredibly happy that Scanlog can offer a solution that makes this possible,\u201d says Jens Fylkner, owner of Malm\u00f6 Chokladfabrik.   <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Through Scanlog\u2019s initiative, Malm\u00f6 Chokladfabrik will purchase fossil-free fuel for all their sea freight in 2025. The biofuel, liquid biogas (LBG), is produced from manure and results in a 100% reduction of greenhouse gas emissions according to Scope 3. The LBG is bunkered using the mass balance principle, and the emission reduction benefits Malm\u00f6 Chokladfabrik, as they cover the cost.  <\/p>\n<p><strong>Scanlog&#8217;s perspective <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cWe launched \u2018100% Fossil-Free Sea Freight\u2019 earlier this year, and the interest has been substantial. It is especially rewarding to collaborate with companies like Malm\u00f6 Chokladfabrik, which not only makes a fantastic product but also takes responsibility for their entire value chain,\u201d says Matilda Jarbin, sustainability and communications manager at Scanlog. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This initiative is part of Malm\u00f6 Chokladfabrik\u2019s long-term efforts to reduce its climate impact and achieve the goal of being fossil-free by 2030. The company looks forward to inspiring other players in the industry to follow. <\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\"><em>Fact: How Does Fossil-Free Sea Freight Work?<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\"><em>The maritime carbon insets offered by Scanlog are delivered with full additionality and traceability. Maritime Carbon Insets refer to the unique ownership of a verified indirect emissions reduction within the maritime value chain through the Book &amp; Claim mechanism. This means that the biofuel is bunkered into vessels in Europe, but the reduction of greenhouse gases benefits the buyer of the fuel, regardless of which ship has transported the buyer\u2019s goods. The process and methodology follow the Smart Freight Centers (SFC) framework.   <\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\"><em>In this case, liquid biogas (LBG) is used, a biofuel made from manure in Europe and certified by ISCC EU (International Sustainability Carbon Certification). LBG is the biofuel that provides the greatest climate benefit and is also cost-effective compared to other biofuels.
