Scanlogs clients can now fly fossil-free

Scanlog – the Scandinavian logistics specialist passionate about Responsible Logistics, today announced that the company now offers Carbon Inset Air Freight to their air freight clients, using Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). “We want to give our air freight clients the opportunity to make a difference,” says Matilda Jarbin, Chief Sustainability and Communications Officer at Scanlog.

In 2019, Scanlog launched its unique offer Always Carbon Offset Air Freight and since then Scanlog has been offsetting all air freight consignments free of charge for their clients. To date Scanlog has offset for over 23,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions, corresponding to flying approximately 2,600 times around the world*. Now, Scanlog is taking the next step and start offering Carbon Inset Air Freight by means of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), in collaboration with Swedish non-profit organization Fly Green Fund.

– We are very pleased to become part of Scanlog’s ambitious work to offer more sustainable transport solutions, says David Hild, CEO of Fly Green Fund Scanlog will be the first logistics company to offer fossil-free air freight via Fly Green Fund, which makes this collaboration extra important to us.

Customers welcome the offer.

With the new Carbon Inset Air Freight offering in combination with Always Carbon Offset Air Freight, Scanlog wants to contribute to reducing their clients’ climate impact. One of many clients who welcomes the opportunity is Alfa Mobility, Scandinavia’s largest provider of international relocation services. Scanlog has collaborated with Alfa Mobility for several years and manage the vast majority of all the company’s air freight.

– We are very positive about this initiative, says Mikko Loikkanen, Senior Sales Executive at Alfa Mobility. Sustainability is important to Alfa Mobility and is integrated into our strategic management system. We also see it as a great opportunity for us to strengthen the dialogue with our customers. We see many advantages in being able to offer carbon insetting to our customers who are Nordic companies that are very progressive when it comes to sustainability, so I believe this will create a lot of interest. Corporate clients often contact us and are concerned about their Scope 3 emissions and ask us what we do about their supply chains. So, we really benefit from working with Scanlog!

Alfa Mobility handles its customers’ goods primarily by road and sea, but air freight is necessary for fast deliveries.

– Sustainability is a hot topic in our industry, continues Mikko Loikkanen. Air freight is often seen as something less good, but the alternative to transporting products by air would be to buy new and that would be worse for the climate. People will always be wanting their goods as quickly as possible so the demand for air freight will remain in our industry. It is important that the supply chain can offer environmentally friendly solutions so that we can all transit to a greener future. What is an option today will be a necessity tomorrow.

The Carbon Inset Air Freight initiative is in line with both Scanlogs motto Responsible Logistics and the EU’s climate package Fit for 55 as well as the goals for fossil-free aviation fuel.

We are very happy about the collaboration with Fly Green Fund that enables us to make SAF available to our air freight clients, says Matilda Jarbin, Head of Sustainability and Communications at Scanlog. Scanlog wants to lead the transition to a fossil-free logistics industry. For many years, we have offset for carbon emissions from our air freight. But it is important that we also work to directly reduce emissions, which we haven’t had the opportunity to do until now. This is proof of that we are constantly looking for solutions to reduce our and our clients’ carbon emission footprints further. Now I hope that we will take more market share in the air cargo market because I think it is better to fly with us than with a logistics supplier who does not take responsibility for sustainability issues. We are aware of that SAF is costly but hope and believe that our customers will invest in at least some SAF for their freight. And we will of course continue to carbon offset for air freight that does not move with SAF – still free of charge for our clients.
